Associated to the scholarship:13/21292-0 - Interaction study of graphene oxide with cell membrane models and with stem cells, BP.PD

The development of nanoscience, nanotechnology and nanomedicine promoted a new frontier on study of nanomaterials, allowing them to be used in cellular and molecular level. Some nanomaterials are showing a high relevance, such as graphene oxide, which is endowed of mechanical, thermal and electrical properties, making them appropriate for biomedical device development and application. Many areas are benefited from the use of this technology, such as medical, agribusiness, cosmetic, electronic, industry. A possible perspective of this nanomaterials is new smart materials manufacturing for biotechnology applications. The objective of this project is to fabricate aligned and random polymeric nanofibers using the electrospinning technique. The graphene oxide will be incorporated into the nanomaterial to examine the effect of this nanomaterial. Next, mesenchymal stem cells will be grown on this model scaffolds with different nanomaterials (random nanofibers, oriented nanofibers, random nanofibers/graphene oxide and oriented nanofibers/graphene oxide), and the cell differentiation and orientation will investigated by Scanning Electronic Microscopy and Confocal Microscopy (AU)
