The research aims to reflect on the contemporary Brazilian documentaries that use humor to address social issues such as indigenous peoples, social inequality, police violence, sexism, among other topics. The objective is to analyze aspects related with the creation process, the modes that this social issues are approached and portrayed, and the exhibition / reception of these works that challenge the serious tone of the "sobriety speeches" prevalent in the documentary field. The study will investigate the following Brazilian documentaries: Mato Eles? (Sergio Bianchi, 1982); A Matadeira (Jorge Furtado, 1994); Nem gravata nem Honra (Marcelo Masagão, 2001); Jesus no Mundo Maravilha...e Outras Histórias da Polícia Brasileira (Newton Cannito, 2007); Um lugar ao Sol (Gabriel Mascaro, 2009); e o falso documentário Recife Frio (Kleber Mendonça Filho, 2009).
