Chronic hyperglycemia promotes the installation of iodinated Contrast-Induced Nephropathy (CIN). Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and CIN involve mechanisms coincident oxidative damage and induction of protective enzymes and cellular adaptation as coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of CoQ10 on renal function and oxidative profile in diabetic rats submitted to the NIC model. Methods: Male Wistar rats will be used, weighing 250-290 g were randomized into groups: citrate: control; DM - animals which receive streptozotocin (65 mg / kg intravenously, iv); DM + CI: DM animals that, after 12 weeks, receive iodinated contrast (CI, 6 ml / kg, intraperitoneal, ip); DM + CI + CoQ10: DM animals that preconditioning receive CoQ10 (10 mg / kg, ip) and then treatment with inhaled; TWEEN 80: animals that receive the vehicle of CoQ10 (1% Tween 80, ip). Physiological parameters (feed and water intake, weight, blood glucose, kidney weight ratio and weight of the animal), renal function (inulin clearance and albuminuria), oxidative profile (urinary peroxides, thiols in kidney tissue, reactive substances will be evaluated thiobarbituric acid in urine and nitric oxide), and renal histology.
