Abstract

Hypothesis: the full-mouth disinfection protocol will lead to clinical and microbial improvements in both groups; however, the magnitude of effects could be better in obese individuals. Aim: the aim of this parallel controlled clinical trial will be evaluate the magnitude of full-mouth disinfection protocol effects on obese individuals against normal-weight/overweight. Both groups diagnosed with moderate to advanced chronic periodontitis. Methods: the study population will consist of 60 subjects (30 obese) and (30 normal-weight/overweight), both gender, at least 18 years of age, no use of systemic antibiotics or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs 3 months before the study. Will be excluded individuals participants in weight control program, with history of periodontal treatment six months before the study and pregnant and lactant women. Longitudinal clinical examinations including periodontal pocket depth, clinical attachment level, plaque index and gingival index will be performed during the trial as to compare the obese responses. Quantitative (qPCR) evaluations of the oral microorganisms P. gingivalis, T. forsythia and T. denticola will be also done. All clinical and microbial exams will be performed at baseline, 3 and 6 months. Analyze of results: descriptive data will be analyzed through measures of central tendency, confidence interval and standard deviation. Treatment outcomes will be analyzed using parametric and nonparametric statistics (p < 0.05). (AU)
