Abstract

The reopening Extraction space after orthodontic treatment is an undesirable effect, but common in clinical practice. Although some studies report the late closing of spaces with recurrence, there is no predictability for this phenomenon. Whereas the physiological mesial movement of third molars could be responsible for this late closing, this project aims to: verify the presence of third molars would affect the stability of the closing Extraction space, and determine the relationship between the quantitative changes of these spaces and changes in angulation of the third molars in the final period, 1 year and 5 years after treatment. Therefore, this study sample will consist of orthodontic documentation of subjects treated in the orthodontic clinic of the Bauru School of Dentistry, University of São Paulo. This will be divided into two groups: Group 1 comprised cases where there was the reopening of extraction spaces in the upper jaw; and Group 2 consisted of cases where there was no reopening of spaces in the maxillary arch. The models will be scanned using a scanner 3Shape 3D R700 (3Shape A / S, Copenhagen, Denmark) and the dimensions of the spaces measured by 3D OrthoAnalyzer TM software. The angulation of the third molars will be measured using panoramic radiographs end of 1 year and 5 years after treatment. Groups 1 and 2 will be compared for the presence of third molars using the chi-square test. To determine the relationship between the dimensions of the spaces of the changes and amendments to the angulation of the third molars, the Pearson correlation coefficient is used. All statistical tests carried out with the Statistica software (Statistica for Windows - Release 5.0 - Copyright StatSoft, Inc. 1995), with a significance level of p <0.05. (AU)
