Abstract

Sugarcane is intensely cultivated in Brazil and drought stress is one of the major abiotic factors that decreases the production. Biotechnology has been widely used to elucidate molecular mechanisms of drought tolerance. Some related genes for drought stress were identified by differential expression pattern and some transcription factors from bHLH family were included in this context. In this work, the gene bHLH47 from sugarcane has been related to drought tolerance by our previous in silico data from RNAseq. Therefore, transgenic lines for sugarcane gene will be analyzed using Arabidopsis thaliana as model plant and compared to wild type plants. The overexpressing lines will be evaluate concomitantly to physiological parameters determined by extensive literature.
