Abstract

The oil spill in the ocean, although decreasing, is the major cause of marine pollution, causing impacts on organisms and also in the socioeconomic aspects, especially when the oil spill reaches the shoreline. There are procedures for containment and remediation to an environment impacted by this spill, but the effectiveness depends on factors such as the choice of the optimal method of cleaning and the response period after the last incident. Emergency plans previously elaborated rely on tools such as the ESI Map (Environmental sensitivity maps) and Vulnerability Maps of oil spills, which establish priority areas of action in response. The goal of this project is to chart a map of the suitable cleaning procedures for each location according to its geomorphology and about the access and sensitivity to oil, turning this into a tool that can contributes so that the response to an accident become more rapidly and effective. The maps will be developed using the Geographic Information System (GIS) where the city of Ilhabela will be mapped, place which has been chosen for its ecological relevance and significant socio-economic activity such as nautical tourism and fishing.
