The impact of frailty in a residence condominium for elderly people in the State of São Paulo

Abstract

The frailty on old age deserves attention, especially with the increase in life expectancy and the predominance of chronic degenerative diseases in the latter stage of life. The recent establishments of condominiums exclusive for elderly people which propose to provide for the needs of the elderly people can be explained by factors like the ageing of the population and the worries regarding providing housing for elderly people. This is a transversal, exploratory and descriptive study which uses quantitative and qualitative methods of research. The aim is to verify the services offered by a condominium for elderly people and their relation to the frailty and care needs of the residents. A project manager and the residents of the condominium will take part in this research. The following tools will be used to collect data: semi-structured interviews, frailty evaluation instrument, mini mental state examination, clock test, geriatric depression scale (short form), Katz index, Lawton instrumental activities of daily living scale, genogram and ecomap. Descriptive analysis will be carried out to analyze the quantitative questions and content analyses will be performed on the qualitative questions. This project was approved by the Ethical Comitee of Research on Human Beings, assessment 726471. All ethical precepts established by the Resolution 466/2012 will be respected during all phases of the study. (AU)
