The increase of global temperature caused by anthropic activities and natural processes have been influence marine organisms, especially benthic macroalgae, that undergo alterations in the composition of ecological structure and physiological functions. However, algae have been developed protection systems as such as antioxidants which prevent or mitigate the changes due to thermal stress. To understand the responses to thermal alterations on macroalgae, it was selected Pyropia spiralis and Sargassum filipendula, species located in the upper midlittoral (Pyropia) and lower midlittoral and upper subtidal regions (Sargassum). The algae will be submitted to five temperature regimes: 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35ºC. In this study will be analyzed and compared growth rate, photosynthetic performance, photosynthetic pigments, total soluble proteins, cellular content of CHN, mineral composition, total soluble carbohydrates, essential amino acids and antioxidant activity in order to evaluate the thermal sensitivity, nutritional value and antioxidant capacity of both species exposed to different temperatures and to promote subsidies for ecophysiological understanding and evaluate their biotechnological potential.
