This research in genetic criticism and French literature of the 19th century is part of the thematic project coordinated by Philippe Willemart from the University of São Paulo (USP). The research will be performed in cooperation with the project on Du Camp and Flaubert's journey to the Orient, coordinated by Stéphanie Dord-Crouslé and Sarga Moussa, researchers from Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Research Unit Littérature, idéologies, représentations (LIRE).This research aims to bring new elements for the comprehension of distinctive features in Flaubert's writing trough the comparative analysis of his letters and travel notes to the ones of Maxime Du Camp. The comparison encompasses unpublished manuscripts and a variety of texts related to their journey to the Orient from 1849 to 1851. Similarities in subjects and in the style from both Flaubert and Du Camp in these texts denote reciprocal influence. Flaubert never wished to publish these notes that are an experience in language, a laboratory for variations, which with some changes, he later integrates into his fiction. The analysis concerns Flaubert's writing and, more precisely, the construction of images and scenes. (AU)
