The new commercial buildings in hot and dry climate regions often do not take into account the appropriate bioclimatic principles, which ultimately raise the building's energy consumption, and not always ensure satisfactory environmental quality for its users. Many of these buildings, although considered efficient through energy labeling and environmental certification programs, they consume more energy than similar buildings with high energy performance. This work aims to evaluate optimal solutions for thermal conditioning for a typical commercial building in a hot and dry climate in Brazil. The adopted method is to establish a benchmarking for energy consumption in the analyzed building and to compare the advantages and disadvantages of active and passive conditioning strategies, as well as renewable energy sources there are likely to be used in the proposed model. The EnergyPlus software will be used as a simulation tool and the results will be statistically analyzed using genetic algorithms, which allow an efficient data crossing, in order to solve the initially proposed problem.
