Abstract

This project is associated to FAPESP master fellowship process number 2014/04593-9, entitled: "Standardization of polar extracts of the aerial parts of Actinocephalus divaricatus (Koern.) Sano (Eriocaulaceae) by HPLC-PDA". The work will be realized under supervision of Prof. Dr. Sonia Piacente (University of Salerno, Italy). The aim of the project is to differentiate the metabolites present in the methanol extracts of the capitulae, scapes and leaves using dereplication by mass spectrometry of known constituents of plant and metabolic profiles studies. The differential study of the three parts of the plant will corraborate with the discussion of Actinocephalus genus, since the studies in the literature are reported to Actinocephalus it was owned by Paepalanthus genus. In this study we will use chromatographic techniques to separate the complex extracts prior to detection. This method involves the chromatographic separation system with selectivity and sensitivity of mass spectrometry to generate the necessary structural information. Furthermore, will used electrospray ionization (ESI), a soft-ionization technique that generates protonated/deprotonated molecules, allows the analysis of nonvolatile and labile components in the extract without derivatization. Thus, these approaches are important analytical tools that will allow the rapid screening and structural determination of the main secondary metabolites present in the aerial parts (capitulae, scapes and leaves) of the specie Actinocephalus divaricatus, besides offering support for the characterization of the genus Actinocephalus.
