Ethylene is one of the most important plant hormones and has different functions in different plant species. One of its most frequents attributes is relate to climacteric fruit ripening and its action over plants in stress condition. However, this last attribute has been questioned once researches have shown varied results related to type and level of stress which releases ethylene in plants. Hence, a better understanding about the relation between ethylene and conditions where this plant hormone acts is needed. Thus, the present research has as goal evaluate the effect of ethylene inhibitors over common bean plants on hydric stress conditions and in its symbioses with nitrogen fixing bacteria, evaluating leaf area index, number of flowers, yield components, number of symbiotic nodules, and amount of nitrogen in leaf and grain.
