Abstract

Introduction: Prolonged immobilization in bed, as occurs during hospitalization, may trigger changes in different body systems and functional capacity. These losses can lead to loss of balance and quality of life. Objectives: Quantify the changes in postural balance and quality of life of patients during hospitalization. Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study that will include 230 patients admitted to medical wards of a tertiary public hospital. Will be included patients of both sexes, aged e 50 years and patients with cognitive deficits, dellírium and those who fail to achieve the proposed tests will be deleted. Sociodemographic and clinical data will be obtained from medical records. Patients will be assessed up to a maximum of 48 hours of hospital admission and reassessed at discharge. The postural balance shall be assessed using the Mini Bestest and health related quality of life by Short Form 12 (SF-12). Were established 22 independent variables that can lead to changes in the postural balance and in quality of life and were established among them comorbidities, patient age, length of stay, among others. Statistical analysis: The sample size was calculated based on the number of independent variables that may affect the dependent variables (postural balance and health related quality of life). (AU)
