Lean production system and World Class Manufacturing: conceptual interrelations and its techniques and tools

Abstract

This research has the overall objective to establish the existing interrelations between the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) approach and the Lean Production system. To answer the research problem - as occurring relations between the WCM approach and Lean Production system? dismembers this objective in four specific objectives required, which are: to describe the state of the art of studies on Lean Production system and WCM approuch; identify the techniques and tools described in literature as support for implementation of Lean Production system; characterize the interrelationship between the WCM approach and Lean Production system; establish the interrelationship between the pillars of WCM and the techniques and tools associated to the Lean Production system. As a research method makes use of a descriptive survey, considering that although the phenomenon is established, its variables are characterized as new, with focus to get an initial view on the subject and establish the interrelation between variables. For both, driving a literature review and establishment of the state of the art it is necessary to create an instrument for data collection, to be applied to experts on the subject, in order to establish the synergy between these phenomena under study. The data are interpreted by means of a return to theoretical research base to investigate the relationship between the observed data and the theory has prepared on the subject. From the rates of return obtained, check the possibility of using the inference procedures and generalization and an assessment of errors in the process as a whole. It is expected to generate theories about its ending theme, which lacks studies through publication in scientific journals and events, as well as view the conduct of new research.
