In this work, will be performed the thermochemical treatment of plasma carbonitriding P20 tool steel, varying the time and temperature of treatment. Thus, it will be possible to determine the influence of this treatment on the properties of P20 steel. The material is characterized by metallographic analysis, determination of the thickness layer formed, surface microhardness, determining the resistance to abrasive microwear. All tests shall be performed on base material and all materials treated superficially. Corrosion tests will be performed on the material without treatment and with treatment of carbonitriding. In addition, the corrosion tests will be performed on the material treated by solid carburizing, gas carburizing and ion nitriding in order to compare the effectiveness of all treatments on the corrosion resistance of P20. The treatments of carburizing and nitriding steel P20 were performed in a previous work of undergraduates and will be used to complement the studies concerning the characterization of P20 steels treated superficially.
