In situ evaluation of the SnF2 potential in inhibiting the progression of the erosion process on human dental enamel

Abstract

Although several studies have shown promising results of tin fluoride solution in inhibiting progression of erosion lesion, there is still no consensus on the frequency of use. Fourteen volunteers using a bilateral inferior removable device containing 3 samples of human dental enamel will participate in this in situ and cross-over study, divided into four phases of 5 days each. Volunteers will be subjected to treatments (n=14): T1 - control (no treatment); T2 - mouthwash with fluoride (500 ppm); T3 - SnF2 solution 1x/day; T4 - SnF2 solution 2x/day. During the in situ experimental phase the device containing the samples will be immersed in 0.5% citric acid, pH 2.6, 2 minutes, 6x/dia at intervals of 1.5 h. Samples will be evaluated by surface microhardness (n=14) at the beginning of the experimental phase (baseline , T0) and after the erosive challenge in vitro (citric acid solution 1% , pH 4.0, 3 minutes) (T1) perfilometry analyses will also be conducted in all experimental periods (To, T1 and T2) and cross-sectional microhardness will be done after the in situ erosive challenge (T2). Additionally, in some samples, analysis will be performed by scanning electron microscopy, allowing the observation of the surface morphology in 03 experimental times. The results will be evaluated in accordance with the classical statistical concepts. (AU)
