Abstract

Over the last thirty years, a significant jet noise reduction was achieved due to the efforts to design more efficient and quieter engines. Since then, the interaction between unsteady turbulent flows and the structure of the aircraft has become a significant source of noise, especially in landing configurations. Therefore, the landing gear has become one of the most important noise sources in terms of airframe noise. In this work, a study on the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic features of a simplified landing gear is presented. A computational fluid dynamics and aeroacoustics tool will be used to compute far-field noise generated by the configuration of interest. This numerical tool uses a fast multipole method to accelerate the solution of the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings equation.
