Abstract

This project presents the design of internship abroad to be held by Prof Jo Ueyama at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, USA, for a period of 12 months. Jo completed his PhD in Lancaster University (England) in 2006 and held two postdoctoral (the first at the University of Kent at Canterbury in 2006 - with a grant from EPSRC-UK and the second in 2007 at UNICAMP - with a grant from FAPESP). After the two postdocs, Jo took over as Assistant Professor at the University of São Paulo in 2008. In 2013, he received the title of Associate Professor and is currently Associate Professor at USP and is CNPq Fellow DT-2. Jo works in the area of computers and teaches classes on topics related to the area as Mobile Networks and Ubiquitous Computing networks. His research has focused on wireless sensor networks (WSN) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). He has had partnerships with several researchers in Brazil, such as those from the IC/UNICAMP, as well as with Prof. Loureiro DCC/ UFMG. In projects with support from FAPESP, CNPq and RNP, Jo and his group investigated the use of middleware to facilitate programming WSNs and UAVs. In this, Jo built several applications, such as the use of WSN to monitor urban rivers and smart grids. After carrying out research in these fronts during the six years of teaching, research and extension, Jo now plans to improve himself in his research and investigate how to provide greater intelligence in WSNs and UAVs, to better meet the proposed applications. He plans to conduct this research during his Sabbatical Leave in the seventh year of its activity iat the USP. Thus, this document presents the objectives and the work plan of the internship abroad as well as the justifications for conducting it at USC.
