Abstract

The transition process for turbulence determines the flows behavior involved in countless engineering applications, however, still is one of the fluid mechanics problems that continues opened. The transition is generated by various types of perturbations that affect the flow, in not controlled terms happens the denominated natural transition. At the present time the direct simulations are employed often to study the physical behavior of the problem. In the solution of practical problems are used empiric rules, that has a computational cost very smaller, however, that offer limited results. This project has as main focus the study of the process of natural transition in boundary layer in flat plate in subsonic regime through direct numeric simulations (DNS). During the project will be accomplished validation tests and simulations of natural transition with various numbers of Mach, to study its influence in the transition process. Based on experimental evidence, the perturbation to induce the natural transition will be modelled using wave packets. The analysis will be made so much in the physical space as in Fourier's space what allows to study the spectral content of the perturbations and to compare with the mechanisms of known transition.
