Interaction study of graphene oxide with cell membrane models and with stem cells

Abstract

The development of nanoscience and nanotechnology in recent years has promoted a new frontier in the study of matter, allowing known compounds have rediscovered their properties to be manipulated at the molecular level, for example, oxide graphene are endowed with mechanical properties, thermal and power that make them suitable for the development and application devices, especially in the biotechnology and sensors. Several areas benefit from the use of this technology, for example, food, medical, cosmetic, industrial, among others. One possible approach to use these compounds are the manufacture of new intelligent materials for biotechnological applications. Due the great potential use nanocomposites in biological systems, it is very interesting to investigate how these materials interact at the molecular level at models of cell membranes, or with living systems, with possibility in nanotoxicity. The first level of this project is the study of interactions between ultrathin films and graphene oxide with membranes and cells membrane models. These ultrathin films will be manufactured using Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films, with possibility of occur together with other molecules. These nanocompounds will be investigated through of conventional techniques of ultrathin films characterization, as such Sum Frequency Generation Spectroscopy. The SFG spectroscopy is a powerful technique to investigate surfaces and interfaces. The technique allow the spectral information (usually is associated with the structure of surface) and orientation of molecules at interface. The second level of this project is the development process of graphene oxide with nanofibers by electrospinning technique, after transfer neural stem cell to this biosystem, under investigations of Scanning Electron Microscopy and/or Fluorescence Microscopy.
