Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting women with a frequency of 0.1 to 4% in a general population, and of unknown cause. The study of inflammatory biomarkers, including pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines has been suggested in order to understand the pathogenesis of OLP. This study aims to determine the expression of IL-2, IL-10 and IL-17 in oral mucosa samples of patients presenting OLP. Patients referred to School of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto to evaluate oral lesions, during the period of 2014 to 2016, who fill the inclusion criteria will participate of this study. After the clinical examination, incisional biopsy and histopathological analysis will be made for defining the diagnosis. Additionally, immunohistochemistry will be made in order to characterize the biomarkers expression. This study will be submmited to approval by the Institutional Review Board of School of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto, and all patients should provide written informed consent in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
