Abstract

In the cities of developing countries, including Brazil, the process of urbanization has been developed favoring the interests of the capitalist mode of production, which means that Brazilian cities emerged and grew quickly without a proper planning in order to fulfill the population coming from the field. In this way, the vegetation cover was quickly removed to building the cities, and the results were great changes in their natural habitat and local climate. Also, it has influenced high levels of environmental degradation, which have a negative effect on the daily lives of city inhabitants, who suffer with discomfort and damage to their quality of life. Thus, the urban climate studies can contribute to the planning and help to develop public policies to improve the quality of life in the urban centers. Therefore, this project aims to detect thermal and hygrometric anomalies and their magnitudes in Penápolis city through mobile traverses, satellite imagery and remote sensing techniques. The research will reference the theory of urban climate system proposed by Monteiro (1976), focusing on what the author called the thermodynamic subsystem. In summary, this study goal consist on verify the design of intra-urban temperatures and humidity according to the land use and land occupation, which may contribute with the urban planning in Penápolis.
