Abstract

The fate of pesticides applied on tropical crops is mainly influenced by high rates of rainfall and the runoff. The occurrence of runoff after applications of pesticides affects the dissipation and toxicity of these compounds to non-target organisms in the soil, and also those that make up the biological structure of aquatic environments. Many pesticides are used in agriculture, especially abamectin (Kraft) and difenoconazole (Score), which are heavily used compounds in strawberry and potato crops in tropical regions, although these compounds are classified as extremely toxic and very dangerous to the environment. Considering the ecological risks in the use of these pesticides, the main objective of this research is to evaluate the environmental effects of pesticides Kraft and Score and its active components, abamectin and difenoconazole in tropical agroecosystems, considering runoff. Toxicological effects on fish (Danio rerio) will be analyzed by laboratory and in situ (mesocosms) experiments. In the analysis of environmental effects will be assessed, in addition to mortality of the test organisms, biomarkers of aquatic contamination related to the activities of biotransformation enzymes (glutathione-s-transferase, and glucuronosyltransferase-7-O-etóxiresorufina deetilase), antioxidant defense (glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase) and parameters indicative of oxidative stress (lipid hydroperoxide, levels of malondialdehyde and protein carbonyl). Analytical methods for determination of abamectin and difenoconazole will be developed and further validation will be used to quantify the concentrations of the water and sediment matrices. (AU)
