Abstract

The transdermal route is a convenient and efficient via of drug delivery is an alternative to the other, such as oral or injectable route. The administration of drugs through the skin is very attractive for several reasons: easy access, application, sustainable and stable drug release; reducing systemic side effects; avoidance of degradation of the drug in the gastrointestinal tract. However, the natural functions of the skin acts as a barrier to foreign substances, by preventing the entry of most drugs. For this reason, researchers are developing various methods to improve the permeation of the drug through the skin. Release of various substances including biological as insulin has been successful with the use of these technologies. However, not all compounds are good candidates for controlled drug delivery via transdermal, only those with high potency and lipophilicity adequate. Thinking about it, hybrid polyether siloxane ureasil the class could be very promising in the preparation of transdermal delivery systems having unique properties as good mechanical strength, transparency and flexibility. Moreover, the hydrophilic / hydrophobic slug of these materials can lead to precise control of the kinetics and amount of released drug.
