Abstract This scholarship application for Postdoctoral, aims to apply exergy analysis to biological systems. To this end, it is considered a model to represent the exergy behavior of the human body. This model takes into account the exergy transfers to the environment associated with convection, radiation, vaporization and respiration, as well as temporal variation of exergy body associated with transient environmental conditions. It also can be estimated from spirometry results (oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production) or anthropometric data (of society or individual) the metabolic exergy (associated with reactions of oxidation of the nutrients). From previous work of the group, it was found that when a human is subjected to hypothermia, the rate of exergy destroyed in the body decreases, while the exergy efficiency increases. Based on this result it is proposed to adapt the human thermal model to an ectothermic animal, an amphibian for example, obtaining an energy and an exergy model. From this modification it will be possible to compare which form of thermoregulation possesses greater efficiency from the perspective of the Second Law of Thermodynamics. | |
