Abstract

Nearly one in ten patients is injured while receiving health care, and of these, many suffer from disabling injuries or death every year. The lack of patient safety causes 42.7 million of adverse events around the world per year, and two-thirds of the total occurs in developing countries. Understanding the global importance and the negative impact of errors in patient safety and the influence that safety culture has on the adoption of safer actions and decisions, this study aims to investigate the patient safety culture in hospitals, by measuring the safety climate. It is a quantitative, cross-sectional survey, using as an instrument of data collection the Questionário de Atitudes de Segurança, cultural adaptation to Brazil of the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) - Short Form 2006. The research will be conducted in two general hospitals in the state of São Paulo, located in different metropolitan areas, the first is a public hospital and the second is a private one. The professionals working in the nursing teams, the doctors, the physiotherapists, the pharmacists and the nutritionists, not outsourced, who work in the hospitals for at least one year, will be the population of this study. Within this population a statistically significant sample will be calculated, using computerized simple random sampling with a calculation of proportionality between the professional categories mentioned. For data analysis will be obtained a confidence interval with a confidence level of 0.95 and an error of estimate of 0.08; will also be used the T student Test with independent samples and ultimately will be used ANOVA with repeated measures followed by multiple comparisons (post hoc). In this sense, this project aims to diagnose and assess what is the current state of patient safety culture according to the perspective of the professionals. (AU)
