In order to continue our Scientific Initiation and Masters researches on the work of Luciano Berio (1925-2003), this project proposes a Doctoral deepening and an expansion around a capital issue in understanding his compositional thought and creative trajectory: the notion of compositional commentary. It is proposed as a starting point, an approach through three conceptual keys - fundamental to Berio's compositional thinking - that correlate to the notion of commentary and whose interrelationship characterizes the problematic field which incorporates this same notion: openness, gesture and myth. Methodologically, such an approach will be developed in three main paths, complementary to each other: 1) conceptual investigation of the notions of gesture and myth through the theoretical writings of Berio and confronting his thoughts to the aesthetic-musical formulations of anthropologist Claude Lévi - Strauss - primarily to propositions on the parallel between myth and music; 2) analysis of musical works by Berio which articulate in an emblematic and singular way the principle of compositional commentary; 3) compositional practical work dedicated to creative exploration of the major issues raised by research.
