Abstract

Erosion processes are essential to understanding the evolution of continental landscape. The action of these processes results in products that are the basis for the development of human activities, so that all available tools should be used in their evaluation. In this context, this research intends to conduct the evaluation and comparison of rates of erosion and sediment transport and its implications on the geomorphological evolution of the Ribeirão Cachoeirinha (SP) basin. This work will be done through the following steps: characterization of the physiographic aspects, assessment of erosion by the USLE and quantification of sediment transport by the simplified method of Colby (1957). It is expected that the results obtained may contribute to the understanding of hydrosedimentological dynamic in this area and serve as a viable strategy for studies of soil loss and sediment transport, aiming at developing consistent material for future researches about environmental planning and land management.
