Abstract

Human herpesvirus (HHV), including human herpesvirus simplex types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), human herpesvirus 3 (Varicella Zoster Virus - VZV), human herpesvirus 4 (Epstein-Barr virus - EBV), human herpesvirus 5 (Cytomegalovirus - CMV), human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6), human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7) and human herpesvirus 8(HHV-8) are members of the Herpesviridae family. Often, can cause serious complications in patients with autoimmune diseases. HHV are important pathogens and are linked to cases of infections. To check the pathogenesis and prevalence of infections caused by HHV in SLE patients and to investigate the presence of coinfection among these viruses, will be used methods of molecular biology such as Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction (Nested-PCR) with primers specific to each virus researched. The use of techniques for detection of viral DNA may be useful because few studies have evaluated the impact of these infections in the care of severe autoimmune diseases, such as SLE. This work will be of fundamental importance to contribute to this group of patients in order to provide greater knowledge and greater attention and care to individuals affected by SLE and infections by HHV.
