The research of active ingredients from natural sources has allowed the discovery and development of many chemotherapeutic drugs used in cancer treatment. Currently about 60% of anticancer drugs are derived from natural products, demonstrating the great potential of these products in the research and development of new drugs for the treatment of this group of diseases. The Multidisciplinary Center for Chemical, Biological and Agricultural Research (CPQBA - Unicamp), in recent years, has been studying the activity of extracts and active principles obtained from Psidium guajava L. that exhibit potential anticancer activity in cultured human tumor cells and in experimental models in laboratory animals. The current project aims to assess the type of cell death induced by active principles Guava flow cytometry to evaluate the anticancer activity in in vivo models and the possible estrogenic/antiestrogenic activity, compared to tamoxifen chemotherapy.
