Abstract

The objectives of this study involve to identify speech samples representative of the use of Glottal Stops (GS); to establish anchor-samples (reference-samples) based on consensus ratings regarding presence and absence of GS; and to compare auditory-perceptual ratings of presence and absence of GS with and without access to anchor-samples. Methods: Phrases produced by speakers with history of cleft lip and palate and speech disorders will be rated by speech-language pathologists regarding presence and absence of GS, the samples rated with consensus will be used as anchor-samples for auditory-perceptual ratings of judges without experience in identification of GS. Data analysis: Descriptive statistics will be used with indication of percentage occurrence of GS and inferential statistics will test the hypothesis that the use of anchor-samples will result in improved agreement among judges (ANOVA, p<0.05).
