Abstract

Despite the evolving technology of dental restorative materials in relation to the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of resin cements, researchers and industry have been engaged in developing restorative materials and techniques that are effective in sealing, reinforcing, and protecting the remaining dental structure in terms of the longevity of bonded restorations. The objective of this project is to conduct laboratory experiments to evaluate the mechanical and elastic properties and the degree of conversion of different self-adhesive resin cements indicated for cementation of indirect restorations and post. These category of dental materials is characterized for being dual cured cements, and considering a clinical condition in which the foundations are not exposed to light for several impediments ( opacity of ceramics, difficulty of curing, low power density of devices, among others), it is important to evaluate the influence of activation modes in these properties. The hypotheses to be tested consider that the self-adhesive resin cements are relatively more stable if they have better mechanical and elastic properties when properly activated and therefore less susceptible to degradation and deformation. The proposed experiments will investigate different mechanical and elastic parameters and the degree of conversion of specimens produced by different resin cements that were activated in different ways.
