Abstract

This research project refers to the internship proposal to be developed at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. With it we aim to extend the doctoral research "Comparative study of the territories of citizenship Cantuquiriguaçu and Pontal do Paranapanema: the Food Acquisition Program (PAA) as part of the strategy of territorial development", which has been developed since March 2013. The objectives are: 1) Make progress in reading about strategies for building food security and food sovereignty; 2) undertake a comparative analysis of initiatives of measures to exploit the local food market in Brazil and Canada; 3) conduct dissertation analysis; 4) undertake training in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and 5) advance training in English language. In Brazil, we study the PAA, a public policy through which the Brazilian Federal Government acquires products generated by peasants, subsequently allocating them to food banks, soup kitchens, charities etc. This analysis focuses on the territories of citizenship of Cantuquiriguaçu and Pontal do Paranapanema. In Canada, we will study the Farm to Cafeteria Canada which is a national network that promotes, supports, links farm to cafeteria programs, policy and practice. We will analyze actions of Farm to Cafeteria Canada in British Columbia. This comparative analysis will be done through the following activities to be developed in Canada: conducting fieldwork, dialogue with researchers at UBC and bibliographic consult. (AU)
