Abstract

The tilapia farming has a great economic importance to Brazil in the fish industry. Although species are easy to breed, the risk of emergence and spread of diseases among animals exists. Thus, there is currently only the laboratory network of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, located in Minas Gerais, but the tests are made only on samples officially collected. In this case, for the realization of health control in fish farming becomes difficult due to the lack of laboratories specializing in this type of diagnosis. Thus, this study aims to describe the macroscopic and microscopic lesions, identify agents with the aid of transmission and molecular (PCR and sequencing) electron microscopy in cultured in cages system in the state of São Paulo tilapia. Therefore, the results obtained with the survey of the major diseases affecting these animals and assist in the sanitary control of fish farms in order to avoid economic losses and ensure safe food for consumption can be made.
