Abstract

Seven dogs ( 14 total ocular bulbs ) will be subjected to inhalation anesthesia with isoflurane for peribulbar blockade guided by ultrasound with 1% ropivacaine and since so, has to evaluate and compare the anesthetic efficacy of 1% ropivacaine administered in 2 different volumes, prove that the implementation of peribulbar guided us can reduce the anesthetic volume, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the combination of sodium bicarbonate 8.4% in the 2 anesthetic volumes investigated, and describe the ophthalmic adverse effects resulting from drugs used. Two different volumes of 1% ropivacaine ( 0.2 ml / kg and 0.1 mL / kg ) with or without sodium bicarbonate to 8.4% shall be assessed, when used to promote the anesthetic alkalinization to pH 7.2. After blockade and with the aid of the ultrasound device software is the distance measured from the needle tip to the optic nerve area and diameter distribution of the anesthetic 5, 10 and 15 minutes following administration of ropivacaine. Anesthesia will be closed and the dogs already awake will be evaluated and compared the intraocular pressure, pupil size, latency times, the durations of motor block, sensory ( performed by corneal esthesiometry with esthesiometer Cochet and Bonnet ), and observation of ophthalmic complications as chemosis, conjunctival hyperemia, subconjunctival hematoma, pruritus, and ocular discharge coming from the anesthetic technique or employed drug. Data will be analyzed as follows: between-group comparisons of variables not showing normal distribution and high coefficient of variation will be analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and those considered normal will be submitted to paired t test. The comparison between moments of the same group will be analyzed by the Friedman test followed by Dunn's test for multiple comparisons. The comparison of moments in the different groups will be performed using the Wilcoxon test, considering a significance level of 5 % (p < 0.05) (AU)
