Abstract

Several factors may influence the retention force and its wear characteristics of the attachment system under function, such as the angle and distance between implants. Objectives: To evaluate the influence of the distance between the implants (22 mm, 29 mm) in the attachment system (O-ring) in retention force, fatigue resistance and wear characteristics of the o-ring attachment system. Methodology: 12 specimens will be made to assess the retention strength and fatigue resistance, which are divided into 2 groups according to the distance. The samples will be tested for mechanical fatigue using a testing machine MTS 810 - Material Test System during 5500 cycles of insertion and removal (f = 0.8 Hz), immersed in artificial saliva. Retention values will be obtained for 4 periods (0, 1500, 3000, 5500 cycles) using a load cell of 10 kN and a constant speed of 1mm/min. A specimen of each group will be selected and analyzed by a scanning electron microscope for qualitative evaluation of the surface in order to identify any changes that may have occurred during testing, in the attachment used.
