Abstract

The research internship at the Centre de Recherche HAR - Histoire des Arts et Représentations of the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre seeks the expansion and deepening of theoretical and methodological discussions and conducting research in French and German archives, which are key to continuity of the Master Research conducted in Brazil, such as: the Centre de Ressources Documentaires du Musée Toulouse-Lautrec; the Departement de Gravure de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF); the Collection Scharf-Gerstenberg de la Nationalgalerie de Berlim; the Bibliothèque de l'Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art (INHA) and the Bibliothèque de la Conservation du Musée D'Orsay. The analysis of the scarce documents of Toulouse-Lautrec's artworks in the archives of the Museum of Art of São Paulo (MASP) and the exploration of the merits of the artworks led to the need to consult the files listed overseas and the maturing of the current theoretical directory. This research internship will attempt to provide answers to the following question: How was it possible to form a set of works of art as consistent for the proposed MASP as modern museum within a defined context as "random" in the bibliography studied so far? Not only the study of the artworks themselves is involved, but also its context acquisition for the formation of this set. In this way, the challenge of this research internship, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thierry Dufrêne, is to collect information on the archives and share knowledge with researchers and institutions more intensively focused on addressing issues involving formation processes of museums and art collections within the studies in art history.
