Abstract

With this project aims to determine possible proteins or peptides present in the liver of Nelore cattle that may be associated with the phenotype of feed efficiency (FE). To this end, liver samples collected in confinement experiment conducted previously which was characterized Nelore males at high and low feed efficiency using residual intake and body weight gain indicator. Liver samples from 20 animals are used, with 10 animals classified as high FE and 10 animals as low FE, a total of 100 animals were collected during slaughter. The samples will be processed for the extraction and quantification of protein content. Later be separated by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis method, according to their isoelectric point and molecular weight. After separation, the gels are stained and scanned for visualization of spots. Upon detection of protein spots analyzes comparison will be performed. The spots that are classified as differentially expressed in the statistical analysis will go through the process of digestion in trypsin for identification by mass spectrometry after consulting the complete proteome of Bos taurus in stock UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot database. From the analyzes protein markers that are associated with FE may be detected. (AU)
