Abstract

This project aims to study the production and dissemination of millenarian texts made by Hannah Allen and Livewell Chapman, in a bookstore at the Crown in Pope's Head Alley, between 1646 and 1665. Thereunto, it is necessary to research the sources in the British archives and libraries; to identify the prophetical texts sold by Allen and Chapman; and to understand how these printings were associated to the dissident editorial activities developed by the two booksellers. Through this study, it is possible to think about these publications as practices associated to the prophetical-political projects of millenarian groups that criticized the worldly governments - among them, Charles I's monarchy and Cromwell's protectorate -, by the wide diffusion of eschatological and apocalyptical forecasts in seventeenth century England.
