Dictionary of Portuguese-English verbs for brazilians learners: elaboration of entry words in A

Abstract

This project proposes a research in Bilingual Pedagogical Lexicography-Portuguese-English, subject inserted in the field of Applied Linguistics and social sciences. The studies to be carried out are part of the project for the compilation of the Portuguese-English dictionary of verbs, proposed by Zacarias, 2011, who is also the professor in charge of this research. The referred dictionary is based on a scientific study of the contrast of Portuguese-English languages and on the needs of Brazilian learners of English as a foreign language. Our work will start from the identification of the most used verbs in Portuguese (Bay and Davies, 2008), then we will carry out a study of fourteen verbs beginning with the letter A. Our study will evaluate the entries of each of the verbs in Portuguese and Brazilian monolingual dictionaries and then on five Portuguese-English school dictionaries. Hopefully, at the end of this work, we will present the fourteen verbs entries, which will be the part of the verb dictionary. (AU)
