An esthetic pleasing denture should reproduce the gum color properly, as well as preserve the physical properties of its structure and materials through time. The polishing method used in the denture fabrication should allow an adequate longevity of the prosthesis. Therefore the aim of this research will be to assess the color stability, microhardness and surface roughness of two pigmented acrylic resins submitted to thermal cycling and disinfection. 176 round (3mm thick and 10mm diameter) proofs will be manufactured, 88 for each resin (Onda-Cryl and Lucitone), of each 44 will be intrinsically pigmented (Poli-Cor). Half of the samples will receive a mechanical polish and the other half a glaze finish. The proofs will then be submitted to 2000 cycles of thermal cycling followed by 60 days of two different disinfection methods (Efferdent and microwave energy). The color stability, microhardness and surface roughness readings will be performed at baseline, after the thermal cycling and then after the disinfection, at least one sample of each group will be analyzed through AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) and MEV/EDS. The data collected will be submitted to the adequate statistical analysis.
