The proposed research aims to analyze one element among many others of greater dynamism in recent years in the Brazilian market: the evolution of the chain of appliance stores in six cities focused in the project Economic Logic and Contemporary Spatial Practices: Middle Cities and Consumption (FAPESP n. 2011/20155-3), Presidente Prudente, Marília, São Carlos, São José do Rio Preto, Ribeirão Preto and Londrina. This proposal relates to those chains with brazilian capital and largest size and importance. Among the objectives of the main project is the study of changes in patterns of consumption - particularly in urban areas - and this investigation is intended to deepen two aspects: the dynamic in six medium-sized cities and the evolution of the commercial branch of appliances in these cities. For this, we propose an analytical and interpretative approach that brings together the literature review, statistical analysis and the use of fieldwork and interviews with local agents. As a result, it is expected to get [i] a theoretical contribution to the study of the role of medium-sized Brazilian cities and its territorial dynamics, and [ii] a review of the current status of the commercial branch of appliances in the six cities and in the national context.
