Over the past few years our research group has been studying and developing alloys which have at same time high wear and corrosion resistance to be used as coatings for the oil industries equipments. Among the developed materials the supermartensitic stainless steel (SMSS) modified with boron stood out by presenting a high wear resistance while maintaining the low hardness martensitic structure. Based on this, a project was proposed for a PhD graduation aiming to produce by co-spray forming process a SMSS pipe innerly coated with the SMSS modified with boron addition, and the study of its wear and mechanical properties. The Materials Engineering Institute (IWT- Institut für Werkstofftechnik) of Bremen University has worldwide, unique facilities of co-spray forming equipment where it is possible to produce bimetallic pipes using industrial scale parameters. This research internship abroad project aims to spend a period at the IWT-Bremen University-Germany under the supervision of Dr. Volker Uhlenwinkel working on the co-spray forming of the bimetallic pipes. In addition to the period at the IWT this project also aims to spend a period in the Laboratory of Electrochemistry and Physical Chemistry of Materials and Interfaces at Joseph Fourier University -Grenoble/France under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ricardo Nogueira in order to study the corrosion behavior of both the spray formed bimetallic pipe produced at the IWT and the boron modified steels produced during the first period of the thesis project at the DEMa-UFSCar. The corrosion properties of the materials developed is a very important issue to be investigated since only few works about the corrosion behaviors of this kind of material were performed up to now.
