Abstract

Buddhism is an oriental religion that presents a proposal of an exit to human suffering. Trough meditation, an elevated state of consciousness is reached, known by nirvana, a state that could be associated with the "oceanic feeling", present in Freud's work. In view of this, the research intends to make a dialogue between psychoanalysis and buddhism, by means of a bibliographic review, namely by a theoretical and conceptual research, in the trial of comprehend a better way to deal with the discontent of the man in the culture, postulated by Freud. In this regard, the Project will try to make an approximation between the concept of death drive and the concept of buddhist nirvana, comprehending that nirvana has elements that could be interpreted by disruption, disconnection, fundamental characteristic of death drive. Bringing elements to think in a possible positivity of death drive as a way out to human suffering.
