The Brazil is currently the third largest producer of poultry meat, the largest exporter, which demonstrates the importance of the poultry industry for domestic and foreign economies, creating jobs, high protein foods with low cost and currency. Infections caused by pathogens such as viruses, fungi and bacteria such as Escherichia coli, are agents that, in addition to affecting the poultry industry, causing reduced productivity and thus increasing cost, they cause of morbidity and mortality birds. Studies have shown that some extraintestinal pathogenic strains (ExPEC) E. coli to humans, such as Uropathogenic (UPEC) and causing meningitis in newborns (NEMEC) and birds (Avian Pathogenic E. coli-APEC) share some virulence-related genes, which would make the latter present zoonotic potential may act as human ExPEC or as a reservoir of virulence genes for human ExPEC. In this work, we intend to perform molecular characterization of three strains of UPEC causing urinary tract infections (UTIs) in humans, analyzing the virulence factors present in them, as well as gene expression, through experiments in vitro and in vivo poultry and thus determine its potential pathogenic for poultry.
