The proposed work includes a larger project called "The transatlantic movement of prints: the globalization of culture in the nineteenth century" - a Thematic Project FAPESP 2011/07342-9 -, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Marcia Azevedo de Abreu (Unicamp), which are linked to Prof. Dr. Lucia Granja, guiding of this work, acting as a researcher associate. The research that we propose aims, as a general objective, register and analyze data from the catalogs of books belonging to the B. L. Garnier's bookstore, a renowned publishing house installed in Rio de Janeiro in the 1840s by French Baptiste-Louis Garnier, with the intention of highlighting the importance of the publisher, regarding to the cultural dialogue between Brazil and Europe during the nineteenth century, through printed papers. Furthermore, the present study intends, as a specific objective, to investigate how were, in Brazil , the processes of appropriation and reception of works of Honoré de Balzac, consecrated French writer in the nineteenth century, also analyzing possible relationships between the presence of this author on the catalogs of B. L. Garnier and the process of Brazilian literature formation. (AU)
