A class of luminescent materials that has been attract the interest of researchers is coordination compounds based on trivalent lanthanide ions (Ln3+) coordinated to organic ligands. The electrical, optical and magnetic properties of these compounds provide the potential for different applications in technological devices, such as light emitting displays, fluorescent lamps, ionizing radiation detectors, among others. Furthermore, self-organized films of luminescent complexes can present potential application in molecular - electronic devices. In this context, this project aims to study the luminescent properties in the organization of Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films of europium complexes with organic bidentate ligands, emphasizing on photoluminescence spectroscopy measurements with UV excitation (in situ) and luminescence spectroscopy with X-ray excitation. In situ monitoring is an important tool to study luminescence mechanisms and energy transfer as well as the investigation of the organization effects and the inter and intramolecular the interactions on the spectroscopic properties of these films. In turn, X-ray excitation optical luminescence (XEOL) a powerful technique for luminescence study of material monolayer array deposited in LB films, also allows to evaluate these systems for application as scintillators.
