Abstract

Scoliosis can be defined as a three-dimensional deformity of the spine, with physiological bends deviation in the sagittal plane and front, leads to an imbalance of strength and muscular torso length, showing the musculature of the concave side retracted and more elongated muscles on the convex side of the curvature, which features a muscular asymmetry problem resulting from a postural imbalance due to pain, muscle spasms or other factors may progress to a structural scoliosis if inciting factors are not identified and corrected. The repercussions of scoliotic deformities can be checked both in respiratory mechanics in ventilation, so that changes in respiratory pattern cause reactions and adaptations in the stomatognathic system. This study aims to understand how the disorders caused by severe idiopathic scoliosis in spinal system can have an impact on the postural set so that changes in breathing pattern, can influence directly in the stomatognathic system once the incongruous use of accessory muscles can change the default functional masticatory system. Will be selected 20 participants of the female gender aged 18 to 30 years divided into two groups and subject to the evaluations of surface electromyography and manovacuometer. The description and the relationship among the variables under study will be evaluated by means of statistical analysis and tests of medium ("t" of Student) for a significance level of 5% (p<0.05). The study allows guide new scientific researches of functional analysis, since there is shortage of works on the theme in literature, producing information about the changes caused by severe idiopathic scoliosis through evidentiary data that determine their influence in the respiratory and stomatognathic system.
