Abstract

The sheep industry cutting is steadily rising in Brazil and this fact leads to an increase in the number of confined animals , seeking greater weight gain in a short period of time . This situation predisposes sheep to disorders like acute ruminal lactic acidosis and hence acute laminitis, which cause economic problems for treatment costs, lower productivity of the herd and disposal of animals , as well as adversely affect the welfare of ourselves . In this context, the development of methods for more reliable evaluation and prognosis are required to study this disease and may also help in preventing the same in a fast and efficient manner , thereby minimizing economic losses. Thus , this study has the main objective to verify the expression of metalloproteinases and blood gas analysis as an evaluation tool and prognosis of acute laminitis in sheep with experimentally induced ruminal lactic acidosis . In addition, blood levels of glucose and plasma lactate , serum protein electrophoresis profile in addition to the urinary pH will be analyzed .
